Pre and post-doctoral positions
Biomedical Engineering
Catholic University of America

The general research area is the use of technology for neuro-rehabilitation of upper limb function after stroke. Students would contribute to ongoing research projects funded by NIH and the Department of Veterans Affairs and work in an interdisciplinary team of engineers, scientists and clinicians from Catholic University of America, National Rehabilitation Hospital and the Washington DC Veterans Affairs Medical Center. One project involves development of a platform for delivery of home-based constraint-induced movement therapy. Previous experience in programming of graphical user interfaces is required. A second project is in the area of robotic devices for hand therapy after stroke. Previous experience in mechanical design, controls and Matlab programming is helpful for this project. Students will participate in all phases of the project: design and development, patient testing, data analysis and dissemination. Post-doctoral fellows will have an opportunity to gain teaching experience as adjunct faculty in Biomedical Engineering at Catholic University. In addition, students and fellows will have an opportunity to interact with several other ongoing projects at NRH: upper limb movement disorders after stroke, motor learning in upper limb amputees, assessment of cognitive function after brain injury, and tele-rehabilitation of speech and language disorders.
